Please read these terms carefully before using UK Traffic Updates
In the event of a genuine emergency or immediate danger to life, always call 999. This website is an information and directory service only and does not provide emergency response services.
By accessing and using uktrafficupdates.uk ("the Website"), you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use this Website.
UK Traffic Updates provides:
UK Traffic Updates operates solely as a marketplace and information directory. We do not directly provide breakdown assistance, recovery, or roadside services. We do not employ, endorse, or have contractual relationships with listed service providers. Any contract for services is between the driver and the provider directly.
Traffic alerts and updates are provided for informational purposes only. Information is sourced from National Highways public data feeds and community reports. We do not guarantee accuracy, completeness, or real-time reliability. Users should verify conditions through official sources before making travel decisions.
By submitting a breakdown request, you agree that:
Anyone can report an incident at /traffic/reports/. No account is needed and we do not ask for an email address or a phone number. By submitting a report you agree that:
Comments posted under a report are public and subject to section 12 (Acceptable Use). We may remove a comment, or edit it to take out something that cannot stay — a phone number, or a distressing detail. When a comment is edited it says so and says why.
What we collect, how long we keep it, and how to have a report removed is set out in what happens to your report.
By registering as a provider, you confirm that:
This section sets out what each plan includes and the main things that decide the order providers appear in — including where payment changes that order. Current prices are on our Plans page.
No position is exclusive. Any number of firms can hold the same plan in the same area and they share it in a fair rotation, so a bigger firm can never push a smaller one off the list. Paid plans renew monthly with no contract. You can cancel at any time from your account; the plan then runs to the end of the month you have paid for, and your listing returns to Listed.
On city and service pages: firms on Top Spot or City, or with a Featured add-on running, come first; then Priority; then firms with a Bump or Refresh add-on running (“Boosted”). Inside each of these groups the order is shuffled every time the page loads, so every paying firm gets a fair turn. Everyone else follows, ordered by Google rating.
On the Find Providers page: when a driver searches a place and sorts by nearest, firms within 15 miles come first in the same paid order — Featured, then Priority, then Boosted, then everyone else — and inside each group, firms whose insurance certificate we have checked come first, then the nearest. Beyond 15 miles the nearest firm comes first, whoever it is. When a driver sorts by Google rating, the paid groups come first, then firms whose insurance certificate we have checked, then the highest rated. With no place searched, paying firms take turns at the top. Sorting A–Z or by newest ignores payment.
Every paid placement is marked “Ad”. Your logo appears on your card while you are on a paid plan or have an add-on running; free listings show the service icon instead. Ratings and review counts come from Google and were taken when the listing was added; paying never changes them.
When a driver asks for help, we alert the nearest providers who do that kind of job — we set how many, five unless we change it. Within 15 miles of the driver, firms on Priority, Top Spot or City, or with a Featured add-on running, are told before any free listing: Featured first, then Priority. Beyond 15 miles the nearest firm comes first. If nobody claims the lead we widen the search and tell more providers, in the same order. The first provider to claim a lead gets it (see section 8).
Lead prices vary by service type (recovery, mechanics, locksmiths, tyres), time of day (standard, unsocial, overnight, emergency), and urgency. Current prices are displayed on the platform and in your provider dashboard. We reserve the right to adjust pricing with reasonable notice.
When you claim a lead, the fee is deducted from your credit balance immediately. Once claimed, you receive the driver's contact details and breakdown information. Leads are sold exclusively — we do not sell the same lead to multiple providers.
Lead fees are non-refundable once claimed. Refunds are only provided for demonstrably fake leads (spam, test submissions) or duplicate leads sent to the same provider. We do not refund for leads that don't convert, incorrect contact info verified at submission time, or customers who change their mind.
Featured listings (7-day and 30-day), Bumps, and Refreshes are paid visibility boosts purchased from your credit balance. A Featured add-on gives your listing the gold Featured card, a Featured place in the order described in section 7 and first refusal on leads, for as long as it runs; a Bump or Refresh puts you in the Boosted group, above the free listings. Featured periods run from the time of purchase for the specified duration. Add-on fees are non-refundable. Featured status does not constitute endorsement.
Coupon codes are subject to availability and specific terms including expiry dates, usage limits, and per-user restrictions. We reserve the right to revoke codes at any time. Coupons cannot be combined, exchanged for cash, or transferred.
Payments are processed via Stripe. By making a payment, you agree to Stripe's terms of service. Top-up credits are non-refundable except at our discretion. Credit balances do not expire. All prices include VAT where applicable.
All listings are subject to approval. We reserve the right to reject, suspend, or remove any listing that does not meet our quality standards, contains misleading information, or violates these terms. Suspending or removing a listing that is already live follows the steps in section 17, so you are told why first. Providers are responsible for the accuracy of their listings and compliance with applicable laws.
You agree not to:
This section limits our liability to you.
UK Traffic Updates shall not be liable for:
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claims arising from your use of the Website shall not exceed £100 or the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, whichever is lower.
We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless UK Traffic Updates and our officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising from your use of the Website, your engagement with any service provider, your violation of these Terms, or any content you submit.
Our collection and use of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which complies with UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
All personal data is handled in accordance with UK data protection laws. We never store payment card details — all payments are processed securely by Stripe.
All content on this website, including text, graphics, logos, and software, is owned by UK Traffic Updates unless otherwise stated. Providers retain ownership of their own business content, and drivers retain ownership of the reports and photos they submit — see section 5. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our own content without express written permission.
Sections 17.1 to 17.6 apply to businesses that list or advertise with us. We will not take a business off the site without telling it why.
If your listing or account breaks these Terms, we will email you to say what the problem is and which part of these Terms it breaks, and give you at least 7 days to put it right. Most problems — out-of-date details, or a photo or wording you are not allowed to use — end there.
If the problem is not put right, we may suspend your listing or restrict it — for example, hide it from searches or stop sending you leads. We will email you our reasons before it happens, or at the latest when it happens.
If we decide to end your account, we will email you our reasons at least 30 days before it ends.
We may suspend or end an account without the notice in 17.1 to 17.3 only when:
Even then, we will email you our reasons when we act, unless the law stops us.
Reply to our email or write to legal@uktrafficupdates.uk, and tell us anything we may have missed. We will look at it again and give you our decision in writing, normally within 7 days. If we got it wrong, we put your listing back straight away.
Your listing comes off the site, and you are not charged for any time after the account ends. If it ended because you broke these Terms, any credit left on the account may be forfeited. You can also leave at any time yourself: cancel any paid plan from your account (see 7.1) and ask us to remove your listing.
For everyone else — drivers, and people posting reports or comments — we may remove content or block access without notice when these Terms are broken (see sections 5 and 12).
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. This Website is intended for users located in the United Kingdom.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page always shows when they last changed.
If you list or advertise with us, we will email you at least 15 days before a change takes effect and tell you what is changing. If a change means real work on your side to adapt to it, we give you longer. If you do not agree with a change, you can cancel any paid plan and close your account before it takes effect.
We only make a change sooner when the law requires it, or to deal straight away with fraud, spam, a security problem or another risk to drivers or businesses that cannot wait. When that happens, we email you as soon as we can.
For drivers and other visitors, changes apply from the date shown at the top of this page, and using the Website after that means you accept them.
If any provision is found unenforceable, it shall be limited to the minimum extent necessary while remaining Terms stay in full force.
