Broken down? Get roadside help in minutes — completely free
🚚 3,600+ businesses • 📍 Local firms • 💷 Always freeHome › How It Works — Drivers
Fill out our quick form with your location, vehicle details, and what's gone wrong. A photo helps — providers can see what they are coming to and quote properly before they set off.
Your request goes to the firms nearest you that do the job you need. Firms on a paid plan within 15 miles of you are told first and get a few minutes’ head start — less if they all turn it down — then the other nearby firms are told too. If nobody takes it within about 10 minutes we widen the search, and if it is still not picked up we tell you rather than leave you waiting.
Whoever takes the job rings you directly. They confirm your location, give you an ETA, and agree the price before starting any work. You are never charged by us — you pay the provider, and only if you go ahead.
The provider arrives, fixes your issue, and you pay them directly. You're back on the road safely. Leave a review to help other drivers in the future.
Anyone can be listed here. A provider showing this badge has sent us its insurance certificate, and:
We don't confirm policies with insurers or check the quality of work, so ask any firm to confirm its cover before you book. Providers without the badge are still listed and may be perfectly good. What the badge means
Your request goes out to local firms the moment you send it
One request reaches the firms near you — you are not stood there dialling numbers
We never charge drivers — ever
35,000+ drivers follow us across social — we are not a faceless directory
Agree price before work starts — no surprises
Your number goes only to providers who claim the job
Short answers. If yours is not here, ask us — a person reads it.
Free, with no catch and no card. We never charge drivers anything, ever — not a booking fee, not a call-out fee, not a subscription.
We make our money from businesses, not drivers. A provider pays us a small fee for your details when they decide to take the job. Some firms also pay for a monthly plan that puts them higher in the listings and tells them about requests near them first, and the site carries adverts. None of that depends on what a firm charges you, so we have no reason to push you towards an expensive one.
Your request goes out the moment you send it, to firms near you. Whoever takes it rings you straight away.
How long they then take to reach you depends on where you are and what is wrong — they will give you an ETA on the phone, before you agree to anything. A motorway at rush hour is not a village at 2pm.
If nobody has taken it within about 10 minutes, we send it to more firms further out. If it still has not been picked up, we tell you rather than leaving you sat there wondering — and we tell you early enough that you can ring round yourself or call your breakdown cover instead.
Where only a few firms cover your area, they are all told at once and we widen the search sooner. You are never left guessing. That is the bit most directories get wrong.
Look for the Insurance certificate checked badge. It means the firm sent us its insurance certificate, the name on it matches the listing, and it showed cover on the day we checked. It shows the date the cover runs to and comes off automatically on that date. It does not tell you about the quality of their work, so check reviews and agree the price before anything starts.
Being honest with you: most listings do not have it yet. Anyone can be listed here, and a firm without the badge may be perfectly good — they simply have not added a certificate. If it matters to you, look for the badge before you ring.
That is between you and the provider, and you agree it before any work starts. Get it in writing for anything over £50 — a text message counts.
If the price they quote is not right for you, you can say no. You have not committed to anything by sending us a request, and you owe nobody a penny for a quote.
Your number goes to one provider — the one who takes the job — and only after they have paid for it. It is not broadcast to a list, it is not sold on, and it does not go to marketing companies.
Providers who are notified of a request see the area and the problem. They do not see your name or number unless they claim it.
Yes, and please do. There is a cancel link in the confirmation, or just reply to it.
It genuinely matters: a provider may already be driving to you and paying for the fuel. Thirty seconds of your time saves somebody a wasted journey, and they remember it.
Your safety comes first, always. On a motorway or dual carriageway, get out on the passenger side and behind the barrier if you can do so safely, and wait there — not in the car and not on the hard shoulder. An orange roadside phone connects you to the control room and tells them exactly where you are.
If anyone is hurt, or you feel in danger, ring 999 first and worry about the vehicle afterwards. Tell the provider on the phone where you are standing so they can find you.
You are handing your vehicle, and sometimes your evening, to somebody you have never met. Most of it is common sense, but it is worth two minutes while you wait.
Get out of the vehicle on the passenger side and behind the barrier if it is safe to do so, and stay there — not in the car, and not on the hard shoulder. An orange roadside phone connects you to the control room and tells them exactly where you are. Call 999 if anyone is hurt or in danger.
Before any work starts, and in writing for anything over £50 — a text message is writing. You pay the provider directly and only if you go ahead. We never charge you a penny, and we never take a cut of what you pay them.
If something feels off, you are allowed to say no and ask us for somebody else. Keep your valuables with you, do not leave your vehicle unattended with a stranger, and check the vehicle that turns up is the business you agreed to.
What we need from you: an accurate location and a number you will answer. A provider pays real money for your details and then drives to you — so keep your phone on, stay with the vehicle where it is safe to, and if you get sorted another way, just tell us so we can stand them down.
This is here for completeness and it applies to almost nobody. A provider pays out of their own pocket for every set of details they receive, so a wasted callout is a real loss to a small business rather than an inconvenience to us.
First time it is a warning and a short suspension. A second time is a 30-day ban. Repeated or serious misuse means the number is blocked, and after that getting help through this network becomes difficult. Every case is looked at by a person first.
