What you get that a police report cannot give you
- The revision chain. Every time National Highways changed the record — severity reclassified, clear time moved, lanes reopened — captured with the timestamp we received it. It cannot be reconstructed after the fact, and no other source keeps it.
- Available in hours, not months. An official police collision report costs £150–£215, cannot be requested for at least six months, and takes a further 6–16 weeks.
- Contemporaneous conditions — GPS as published by National Highways (never adjusted), weather and road surface at that coordinate and minute, lane status, diversion routes, clearance times.
- STATS19 collision history at the same junction, by casualty class — for pattern and duty-of-care arguments.
- A document you can put on the file — watermarked with your firm, independently verifiable by reference, re-downloadable forever, frozen at the moment of purchase so it never changes.
